Teen Classes

These classes are offered in two age groups- Level 1 is 7th-9th grade and Level 2 is 10th-12th graders. These teen classes are divided into individual styles of dance where students can focus on the technique of one genre at a time while learning a recital piece. Classes will help students make and achieve goals on an individual level while helping them work towards class achievements.

Teen Ballet 1 and 2

Ballet is the foundation of all dance! It is a beautiful art form to study on its own and also adds grace and fluidity to a dancer’s jazz training. Ballet is ESSENTIAL for any girl who is serious about her dance training! The technique, poise, control, grace, and discipline that dancers learn here will be a great benefit to them as they grow and develop. Dancers will do exercises at the ballet barre, center floor, and across the floor.

  • Tuition: $50 ($40 add on)
  • Costume: $75
  • Shoes Required: Pink Ballet Shoes

 

Classes meet at the following times:

Teen Ballet 1: Monday 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Teen Ballet 2: Monday 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Teen Jazz 1 and 2

In this class you will have an hour to focus on the basics of jazz technique while learning a recital piece. Our goal is to help each student learn on an individual level while teaching them to dance as a team. Jazz technique taught will include, but not be limited to, multiple pirouettes, leaps, fuettes, leg hold turns, pique turns, extensions etc.

  • Performances: Recital
  • Tution: $50/month ($40 add on)
  • Costume Fee: $75
  • Required shoes: Black jazz shoes

Teen Jazz 1: Tuesday 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Teen Jazz 2: Thursday 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Teen Hip Hop 1 and 2

Hip Hop is here to stay! There are many different styles of hip hop from jazz/funk to popping and locking to “emo hop” which blends contemporary and hip hop.  This class will introduce students to several of these styles by learning different pieces of choreography and technique unique to hip hop. Teachers will place focus on different hip hop skills, body isolations, musical timing, and learning strength through movement.

Teen Hip Hop 1: Thursday 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Teen Hip Hop 2: Wednesday 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Teen Power Tap 1 and 2

In this class you will have an hour to focus on the basics of clogging technique while learning a recital piece. Our goal is to help each student learn on an individual level while teaching them to dance as a team. Power tap technique taught will include, but not be limited to, basics footwork, knowledge of the steps and sounds, and rhythm. Power Tap is a clogging style that has kept up with times and uses some fusion of tap, hip-hop, and jazz technique.

  • Performances: Recital
  • Tuition: $50 monthly ($40 add on)
  • Costume Fee: $75
  • Required shoes: Black leather clogging shoes

Teen Power Tap 1: Thursday 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Teen Contemporary 1 and 2

In this class you will have an hour to focus on the basics of contemporary technique while learning a recital piece. Our goal is to help each student learn on an individual level while teaching them to dance as a team. Contemporary technique is unique in that you fuse together your jazz and ballet technique to create meaningful movements. There will be more focus on creative movement, modern, and self discovery.

Teen Contemporary 1: Wednesday 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Teen Contemporary 2: Tuesday 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Teen Jazz Technique: Strength and Leaps

One class available for 7th grade – 12th grade.

This Class is for the dancer that wants to go above and beyond and increase their jazz , contemporary, and ballet technique. Dancers will work at an individual level as they take the hour to focus on stretching, strengthening, and leaps. Dancers will be taught how to properly power and increase flexibility in their side, back and front leaps as well as learning variation leaps such as the firebird.

Class meets at the following times:

Teen Strength and leaps: Tuesday 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Teen Tumbling

One class available for 7th grade – 12th grade.

In this class you will have an hour to focus on the basics of tumbling technique. This class will not perform, but will largely focus on increasing individual skill level and improving strength and stamina. Dancers will be given the instruction and time to work on perfecting old skills, skills involved in choreography, and learning new tricks. While tumbling is not required of dancers, it, like ballet, greatly increases the ability and quality of the dancers. So much of competitive dance often includes tumbling skills.
